Need for This Course: A summary of the Adelphi University’s Center for Health Innovation Emergency Preparedness 2012 poll of U.S. adults indicates that: 48% lack emergency supplies, 55% believe that local authorities will help them out in their time of need and only 18% reported receiving information on healthcare preparedness from the media. After reviewing these results it is apparent that our communities are in need of easy access to reliable disaster health information and other emergency preparedness resources. We know that disaster and emergency preparedness information, available online to consumers and those who provide information to the public, can be overwhelming. It is difficult to determine what is reputable and reliable. As NN/LM educators we are positioned to provide training on NLM’s disaster health information, emergency preparedness and other resources for our families, friends caregivers and those with special needs. This class will guide you to the appropriate resources and services.

The instructional methods used include Demonstration, Slides, and Discussion.

Participant Materials: Online PowerPoint slides

Facility Requirements: Computer with internet access and sound. Telephone

Additional Evaluation: Online poll questions during the presentation
